SCHOOL BRIGADA PAGBASA

BACKGROUND

 

       World Vision Development Foundation in Partnership with the Department of Education through the Office of External Partnerships Service established the project called “BRIGADA PAGBASA” (as a form of Brigada Eskwela Initiative ) a mass movement for reading that envisions to bring together experts, change makers, policymakers, and other stakeholders across all sectors from international and local agencies and organizations in the public and private sectors to form collaborations among agencies to synergize efforts and resources towards addressing education challenges and opportunities to contribute in addressing current challenges and gaps in the education in the country by equipping our learners with 21st century skill.

           

           With the theme “Bayanihan sa Paaralan”, the Brigada Eskwela emphasizes the country’s collective efforts in promoting collaboration for safe living and addressing social issues and concerns in schools, at homes, and in the community. Brigada Pagbasa, as a form of Brigada Eskwela (through its volunteerism spirit), is an after-school reading program that aims to cultivate a culture of reading among learners and help those who need further assistance in developing their literacy skills.

      

                 Brigada Pagbasa intends to cater to learners who are below 18 yrs old, including those who are under the Alternative Learning System(ALS), focusing on non-readers and struggling learners from both formal and non-formal education system nationwide.

              RATIONALE

         Brigada Pagbasa as part of the Brigada Eskwela is intended to improve the learners literacy skills or help learners enjoy the beauty of reading. Tambo Elementary School Unit 1’ Brigada Pagbasa will utilize teaching individually or in groups and targets academic difficulties that potentially hinder learning. It will also help create opportunities to invite stakeholders to take part of this year’s Brigada Eskwela by being part of the school level reading program.

 

          This Brigada Pagbasa, aims to help learners develop their reading abilities and at the same time gaind general knowledge to apply in all subject areas. Having this activity, we hope to help our learners reduce the feeling of hopelessness that can lead to behavior motivation issues. This Brigada Pagbasa will seek to strengthen the reading ability of every pupil-recipient and to help in fostering the culture of reading.

 

                The school Reading Remediation is a year-round activity across grade levels (Grades 1 to 6). Reading assessment will be conducted during the first month of the school year  via Philippine Informal Reading Inventory  (Phi-IRI) and plot the different related activities in the implementation of the program.  Reading coordinators in English and Filipino will give monthly assessment to these pupils . Post test will also be conducted a week before the culmination of the said program.

 

      Our volunteers for this Brigada Pagbasa are government officials (Barangay Captain/Kagawad, SK Chairman /SK Kagawad), alumni, and teacher-retirees of TES1. These volunteers will be informed through writing and shall collaborate with teachers in facilitating the teaching reading focusing on Basic Reading for Key Stage 1 pupils (K to Grade 3) and Reading Enhancement for Key Stage 2 pupils (grade 4-6).

                  Reading resources/materials will be provided by the school and the implementaion will be  via zoom/gmeet or limited face-to-face engagement.        

 

               GOALS:

skills of each pupils in reading and improve their comprehension skills

potential of every pupil recipient and help them gain confidence in studies

for all stakeholders to be part of Brigada Pagbasa and be a volunteer in the
